The Importance of Apps and Websites for E-Commerce Businesses

There is no one who can neglect the current influence of mobile platforms, especially e-commerce businesses who are observing a notable spike in customer visits to their sites from mobile devices.

The worldwide market share of mobile commerce is assumed to touch more than 60% by 2017 and by 2020, it is expected that the revenue produced by mobile commerce will be over $200 billion.

However, that does not mean that the web platform can be completely ignored in favour of the mobile platform, or that having a web application will not allow you to touch a greater market share.

Many people nowadays prefer the mobile platform for e-commerce shopping. Researchers have also pointed out that the rate of people who add items to cart from a desktop are 2.78%, but this does not mean that they always make a purchase. On a mobile platform, the add-to-cart rate is 4.7%, and the conversion rate is 80%. Both are used by customers to make purchases, and both should be considered by business owners looking to sell their products & services on the web.

The Difference between Apps and Websites:

Responsive Website, Mobile Application or Both?

It has become crucial for all websites and web applications to be responsive or adaptive, as they can now be reached from a smart phone, desktop or tablet. Business owners have to work with this fact when they are planning out how to release their e-commerce solution.

It is also important to take into account the fact that Google now prioritizes websites and web applications that are optimized for mobile devices. If your web application is not optimized for use on mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets, but your competitor’s application is, Google will prioritize your competitor over your business.

Requirement for a mobile application

Smart e-commerce businesses in today’s day and age have a mobile app developed alongside a responsive website for their business. Some businesses have tried using mobile applications alone instead of development of a new website, but it is normally beneficial to have both. The decision between apps and websites is an important one for many business owners, what it usually comes down to is your customers. What do your customer’s use more regularly, and how do you want to interact with them?

A lot of the time, customer preference varies; many development companies recommend the development of both a mobile and a web based application. It cannot hurt for your business to be available everywhere to your customers.
